The causes of LED light flickering phenomenon and flicker-free drive scheme

First, the causes of LED light flickering phenomenon

The flickering phenomenon of LED lights is caused by the rapid periodic change of the brightness of LED lights during operation due to the reasons of the power drive circuit, resulting in the brightness perceived by the human eye changing from bright to dark. This phenomenon is relatively common in some LED lighting fixtures. The main reasons for its occurrence are as follows:

Unstable power drive circuit. In the power drive circuit, if the current waveform is not smooth, it will cause the flickering phenomenon. The instability of the current waveform may cause the brightness of LED lights to change periodically, thus leading to the occurrence of the flickering phenomenon.

Power factor of the drive power supply. Power factor refers to the power ratio between the drive power supply and the load. If the power factor is too low, it may cause the brightness of LED lights to change periodically, thus producing the flickering phenomenon.

Frequency of the drive power supply. If the frequency of the drive power supply is unstable, it may cause the brightness of LED lights to change periodically, thus producing the flickering phenomenon.

Quality of LED lights. Poor quality of LED lights may cause the brightness of LED lights to change periodically, thus producing the flickering phenomenon.

Second, flicker-free drive scheme

In view of the above reasons, we can take the following measures to avoid the flickering phenomenon of LED lights:
Use PWM dimming method. PWM dimming method adjusts the brightness of LED lights by controlling the time of power supply, thus avoiding the uneven current waveform and preventing the occurrence of flickering.

Improve the power factor of the drive power supply. The power factor can be improved by using power electronic technology such as passive power factor correction (PFC) technology, thus avoiding the flickering phenomenon caused by a low power factor.

Improve the frequency stability of the drive power supply. The frequency stability of the drive power supply can be improved by using high-precision power frequency control technology, thus avoiding the flickering phenomenon caused by frequency instability.

Choose high-quality LED lights. Choosing high-quality LED lights can improve the quality of LED lights, thus avoiding the flickering phenomenon caused by poor quality of LED lights.

Use flicker-free drive chips. Flicker-free drive chips can effectively prevent the occurrence of flickering, and there are now a variety of flicker-free drive chips available on the market.
In general, to avoid the flickering phenomenon of LED lights, it is necessary to consider multiple aspects such as the power drive circuit, drive power supply, quality of LED lights, and drive chip, and take corresponding measures in order to prevent the occurrence of flickering.
